October 11, 2013: Coho Ferry

365 Project, Day 102
Here is my day 102 submission to my 365Project:

This weekend I went to Port Angeles, Washington State with friends to go to Crabfest. The ride across the Strait of Juan De Fuca from Victoria on the Coho Ferry (operated by the Black Ball Ferry Line) is beautiful and I spent most of the time on the bow of the ship enjoying the fresh air and looking, of course, for whales in the glass calm seas. Unfortunately, we didn't see any whales but it was a beautiful evening crossing :)

Fun fact of the day:
The origins of the name for the company Black Ball Ferry Line extend back to 1816 when Captain Charles H. Marshall founded the Black Ball Line which was the first scheduled transatlantic passenger service. In 1926, 112 years after the initial Black Ball Line was founded, Captain Marshall's grandson, Captain Alexander Marshall Peabody chose the same flag for his fleet, the Puget Sound Navigation Company, which operated ferries in Puget Sound under the trade name Black Ball Line.

And here is another photo from the crossing:
