September 29, 2013: Passionate Drummers

365 Project, Day 93
Here is my day ninety-three submission to my 365Project:

We went to Mont Royal Park in Montreal today to check out the Tam Tams, the huge drumming circles that meet every Sunday in the park in the summer and fall. This is only one of many of the weekend activities we saw in the park including: a music group with a full stand-up bass, Live Action Role Player "Larpers" and juggler, acrobats and tightrope walkers from the Cirque Du Soleil Circus School! I had a great time snapping photos of the people at the huge drum circle - such awesome expressions!

 Fun fact of the day:
The Tam tams have been playing in the park over 20 years now.

For more information on the Tam tams read this Tam-tams du Mont Royal webpage.

Here are some more photos from a lovely day in Montreal:

Looks like nature was trying to take over these bikes!

This evening we had a lovely dinner at O Noir, the restaurant where you eat in complete darkness and the service staff are blind...a very interesting experience! This is the front reception area where you order your meal (mystery drinks and meals are available!) before you are taken in to the dining room.

In the Metro...subway in motion!

September 28, 2013: Mother Earth

365 Project, Day 92
Here is my day ninety-two submission to my 365Project:

Today was the second last day of the amazing Mosaicultures Internationales competition at the Montreal Botanical Gardens. It was incredibly busy but with a little patience and timing a still managed to grab some photos without people in them. Absolutely stunning stuff!

These sculptures were amazing and it felt like we were had stepped into a world touched by Edward Scissorhands, a character from one of the one of the sweetest movies ever!

Fun fact of the day:
Mosaiculture is a horticultural art involving creating and mounting living artworks made primarily of plants with colourful foliage (usually annuals but occasionally perennials). These pieces of art should be distinguished from topiary which consists mostly of shrubs pruned to create different shapes.

Learn more about Mosaicultures at the Mosaicultures International de Montreal webpage.

September 27, 2013: Reaching For Heaven

365 Project, Day 91
Here is my day ninety-one submission to my 365Project:

I've been in Montreal for a few days to visit my sister who is studying fine arts and writing at Concordia. She lives very close to Mont Royal Park and we went for a short walk there this afternoon. Here's a photo I took of the George-Étienne Cartier monument.

Fun fact of the day:
Historians claim George-Étienne Cartier was responsible for persuading French Canada that they would stand a better chance of preserving their language, religion, institutions and culture if they joined in the creation of a unified Canada.

Read more about the
George-Étienne Cartier monument on this public art in Montreal webpage.

Here is another photo I took of the monument:

September 25, 2013: Feeding Hummingbird

365 Project, Day 90
Here is my day ninety submission to my 365Project:

I was delighted when I was walking through Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, BC and I heard and then spotted this Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna) feeding near me...and I had enough time to get some shots of it in flight and feeding.

Fact of the day:
On rare occasions, bees and wasps may become impaled on the bill of an Anna's hummingbird, causing the bird to starve to death.

Read more about Anna's Hummingbirds on AllAboutBirds.org

Here are some more shots from today's wanderings around Beacon Hill Park:

I love the colours of the peacock and the fall leaves!

More photos of that Anna's hummingbird!

And of course...the Canada Geese :)

This mushroom was HUGE!
